Athens, GA – Man Killed in Fatal Bicycle Accident on Pittard Rd

Athens, GA (September 13, 2021) – At 3:10 a.m. on Saturday morning, September 11, a man was killed in a fatal bicycle accident in Athens.

According to Athens-Clarke Police, the accident happened at 200 Pittard Road around the area of Georgia Highway 72. A 32-year-old woman from the area was driving her Mazda CX-9 and suddenly struck a bicyclist who was traveling in the area. It is believed that the driver did not see the bicyclist until it was too late.

Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help. The bicyclist, who was identified as a 41-year-old man, was severely hurt in the accident. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
