Atlanta, GA – Woman Seriously Injured in Pedestrian Accident on I-85
Atlanta, GA (October 9, 2021) – On Monday, a woman was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident on a highway in Atlanta.
According to Atlanta Police, the accident happened on I-85 around the area of Piedmont Road. A 27-year-old woman was driving in the area when her vehicle suddenly started to break down. She pulled onto the shoulder and got out of the vehicle. When she called a friend to come to help her, a vehicle traveling 90 miles per hour struck her, throwing her 30 feet onto the ground from the overpass. It is believed that the vehicle that struck her was racing another car at the time.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. When the victim woke up, she was on the ground with a complete break to her leg and a fracture to the other leg. She also sustained a fractured pelvis and was missing some teeth as a result. She could be in the hospital for several weeks as she recovers.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested on several charges and spent time in jail for their role in the accident.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Georgia
Pedestrians are some of the most at-risk parties on Georgia roads. This is due to the fact that they have no protection from harm in the event of an accident. Many people are seriously injured and even killed in pedestrian accidents every year. In fact, in just one recent year’s time in Georgia, over 260 pedestrians lost their lives and many more were injured in pedestrian accidents. It is never easy to face the aftermath of a pedestrian accident on your own, especially if you have been seriously injured in a collision. This is why you should speak with an attorney that you can trust in your time of need.
Being injured in a pedestrian accident can affect your life in many ways. These accidents tend to lead to serious and life-altering injuries, including the following:
- Spinal cord injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Fractures
- Organ damage
- Road rash
Pedestrians tend to spend an extended period of time in the hospital and away from the workplace as they get back on their feet physically. If you have been hurt in a pedestrian accident, you should seek the help of an Atlanta personal injury lawyer as soon as possible.
