Norcross, GA – One Killed in Pedestrian Accident Involving Officer on Brook Hollow Pkwy
Norcross, GA (April 10, 2023) – An individual was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place at a Norcross intersection on the morning of Sunday, April 9.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened at 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Brook Hollow Parkway and Mitchell Road. Police confirmed that an officer with Gwinnett County was in his police cruiser and traveling through the intersection when he suddenly struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway. The officer immediately came to a stop and hopped out of his vehicle to assist the pedestrian.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Norcross responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Though the officer attempted to help the pedestrian, they were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Police have since identified the pedestrian as a 48-year-old man from Lawrenceville. The officer sustained a minor injury but is expected to fully recover.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for some time following the accident. This led to delays until police were able to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
We want to offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was lost in this accident.
