Statesboro, GA – Man Injured in Train Accident Near Matthews Rd Intersection
Statesboro, GA (April 12, 2023) – A man was injured in a train-related accident that took place on the railroad tracks near a Statesboro intersection on Tuesday morning, April 11.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened around 9 a.m. on the tracks near the intersection of Matthews Road and Fletcher Drive. Police confirmed that a man was traveling east on Fletcher when he started to cross the train tracks in the area. His vehicle was suddenly struck by two oncoming train engines, which led to extensive damages. Police said that there were no crossing arms at the railroad tracks in the area but there was a yield sign nearby.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The man inside the passenger vehicle, who has not yet been identified, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was then airlifted to Memorial Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Nobody on the train was hurt in the accident.
The area was blocked off by the accident for some time. This led to delays in service for some time until the scene was cleared.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
We want to offer our warmest sympathies to the party injured in this accident. We hope that he will receive a full recovery.
